Artwork Story: This piece represents the change in seasons in Broome. The build-up, the start of the stormy season, Laja season (In Yawuru). When the clouds start to build but the first storm is yet to arrive. The air is sticky and still, and the dry red earth is ready for a big drink. The sunsets are beautiful and the town is once again quiet, peaceful. In this painting, the pelicans join the Black & Whistling Kites fishing at low tide as the afternoon build up clouds start to roll in. I observed the cloud changes more closely this last build up (Oct/Nov 2022) and used many images I’d taken over that period, as references to try capture this time of year as best I could in this piece.
